A political firestorm is brewing in Florida! The Chinese have begun pumping oil 90 miles off the coast of Florida. This action is sure to be a hot topic in a showdown debate between the front-runners of both political parties as the Florida straits have a new resident overtaking the landscape. The gigantic Chinese oil rig just arrived after a long voyage from Singapore.
The new Chinese oil rig is part of a partnership between the Chinese government and the Castro regime. The “Scarabeo 9″ Rig is setting up shop in the Florida straits off the coast of Havana Cuba. This is not settling well with concerned Americans who are just starting to recover from the British petroleum oil disaster in the gulf. Somewhere in Britain Tony Hayward is smiling. Many Cuban Americans see this as counter productive for bringing freedom to the Cuban nation. As the Cuban govt was having to import oil and will have excessive amounts of oil to fuel the dictatorship of Raul and Fidel Castro.
Now the trade embargo will have less of an impact of bringing change as more and more oil is pumped out every day that the oil rig is in operation. This could be the defining moment for the Obama administration to take some extra measures to lessen the impact of the oil rig taking oil from the straits. And now Obama’s hand may be forced to also drill in the straits lessening the amount of oil the Chinese Cuban oil rig will ultimately take out of the straits.
Expect to hear Marco Rubio, Mitt Romney and Ileana Lehtinen to tell Obama to not let the Chinese oil rig operate. Though outside of creating world war three. I see little if any viable options for getting that Chinese oil rig off the coast of Cuba. Unless Obama can make a deal with the Chinese to take the rig elsewhere in exchange for god knows what.
This is really a risky issue for both parties as many south Floridians do not like the Cuban regime. Yet Many of the historically republican gulf states were devastated by the BP gulf oil rig disaster. If more drilling is opened up off the coasts of Florida this may not set well with many Floridians. Expecting the gulf population to have a short memory about BP might be playing with fire regardless of the price of gas.
These extra oil rigs and drilling off the Florida coast will only create more worries and concerns for the water quality in the region. Florida is known as one of the prime fishing spots in the world. The united states is damned if they do or don’t do in regards to keeping these waters pristine. The election year could very well push the Obama administration into a corner and concede to allow more off shore oil drilling in Florida.
I would not be surprised by these actions and would expect the water quality to be downgraded. The times we live in require us to further protect ourselves from the pollution that will occur. I recommend people to not drink straight from their tap water until it has been properly filtered. My reaction is that I think the Chinese are undertaking a legal business of extracting oil from the ground for the benefit of mankind. Surely, whatever they use that oil is benefiting all of us. It sure helps them not to depend wholly on the Iranian Oil whose proceeds get used for making Nuclear Warheads!!
